How Long To Wait For PCO Licence

How Long To Wait For PHV Licence

So you’ve applied for your TFL Private Hire/ PCO Licence, passed the topographical assessment (hopefully with a bit of help from the appdriver training) and you can now sit back, put your feet up and wait for the licence to arrive in the post.

If you’ve read my comprehensive breakdown of how to get licenced as a Private Hire Driver ‘ How To Become An Uber Driver In London’ you may have realised that you’ll be sitting down for a good few months till your private hire licence arrives.

It actually took me 8 months from applying to receiving my licence, so my advice is to use this time productively.

If you are new to the private hire industry, just like I was, then there is so much that you are unaware off that you’ll be setting yourself up for failure if you go into this blind.

Firstly, are you aware of what your getting yourself into? If your not fully aware of what it means to be a private hire driver, how will you know if this profession is really for you.

Secondly, if you have never been self employed there are many things to consider, especially if you have never been your own boss before and paid your own tax.  When it comes to the aspect of tax, it is important you understand how as a self employed Private Hire driver can massively reduce their tax bill through all the expenses you will incur.

Read the post ‘Beginners Tax Advise for Uber Drivers Uk’ so you don’t get caught out.

Thirdly, do you know anything about Uber or any other ride sharing platform you’re going to be partnering with?

Do you know what is expected of you when working for these companies?

What are the Do’s and Don’ts?

And how do the apps actually work?

Apart from a very brief presentation when you on-board, you are essentially left to figure this out on your own. To give yourself the best chance to succeed, you really want to hit the road running and want to hit the least amount of road bumps as possible.

Use this time wisely and be proactive. There’s a lot or research you could be doing from reading articles online to watching youtube videos which will answer all the questions you may have and clear up anything your not quite sure about.

This website was set up to help new drivers like you from getting your PCO licence all the way through to getting you on the road and earning as much money as possible. Spend some time reading all the articles which will hopefully provide you with valuable information and a better understanding of the Private Hire Industry.
