Happy New Year and wishing you all a prosperous 2020. I started my journey into Private Hire in the middle of 2019 and it’s been a really positive experience.

There has been a lot of experimenting, a lot of learning, a lot of improving and I’m looking to bring all this knowledge into 2020 to be able to earn more money and bring more value to you guys.

The first week in January, as expected was very slow, but it was thankfully saved by a decent New Years Eve.

On New Years Eve I earned £186 with Uber, £51 with Bolt and £21 cash tips for a total of £258.

I started at 9 pm and finished at 3:30 am. Between 9 and 12:30 it was quiet so the majority of the money was taken in 3 hours.

As usual there was a lot of negativity online, and this time it was about working New Year Eve because of the low rates or because of the drunks. I ended having a really good night with no issues at all which is a reminder to you not to pay too much attention to the negativity you hear and read on the internet.

January is historically a very quiet month but I am focused and ready to do what needs to be done to maintain the earnings and I hope you have a good month too.

6 Jan – 13Jan 2020 | Uber £493.92| Bolt £280.43 Total £774.35

As expected, a very slow week. Between Uber and Bolt I still managed to earn £774 so it wasn’t a complete disaster but it was definitely a drag. Jobs have been few and far between so I have pretty much been taking everything that’s come my way.

In these quiet periods, a renewed focus is definitely needed and there can’t be any slacking. Unfortunately, I cant see next week getting any better but hopefully I’m wrong.

13 Jan – 20 Jan 2020 | Uber £338.52| Bolt £422.60 | Total £761.12

Another quiet January week but with an interesting little twist.

This week was the first time since I started driving for Bolt that my Bolt earnings where more than my Uber earnings.

I’m not sure why Bolt has been so busy. Maybe there have been big rider discounts which have made trips more affordable or is it simply Bolt taking a big chunk of the market share. Whatever the reason may be, it has been very positive as Bolt journeys tend to be longer distances with 10% less commission, meaning that you generally get paid really well for Bolt Jobs.

20 Jan – 27 Jan 2020 | Uber £389.83| Bolt £248.35 | Total £638.18

Yet another very quiet week with really nothing to report. The only upside is that January is finally over, people have been paid and hopefully as we enter February, normal service will be resumed.

January as a whole has been extremely quiet and a very tough month. We expected it to be quiet but speaking to experienced drivers it has been a particularly difficult one.

Coming from a sales background, I am aware of how monthly trends affect business and am used to the peaks and troughs in sales so I am not panicking. I know February will be better and will continue to get busier month on month so let’s write January off and take advantage of the busy times ahead.
