September 2019 Uber Earnings Report

september uber earnings

2 Sep – 09 Sep £266.18 (£16.12 Per Hour)

JOB OF THE WEEK

This was my first week back to driving for Uber after 4 weeks off. I took the whole month of August off and spent 3 1/2 weeks in Cyprus. As nice as it was being at the beach everyday, it was equally exhausting running after 3 kids from early morning to late at night.

Regardless, I came back raring to go and ready to hit the road hard, but as you can see from this week earnings, it never really happened.

Getting back to work after a long holiday is always difficult, but getting back to full time work and driving part time in the night was gruelling.

I tried going out every night, but could only manage about 3 hours before I threw in the towel. The few hours I did manage to do, I was really unproductive as you can see from the lower than usual hourly rate of £16.12.

By Saturday I was spent so I decided to take of the weekend to recover to hopefully have the energy to have a good week next week.

Note worthy was the job of the week which was another Uber pool job. Uber pool seems to get a bad rap with drivers avoiding them like the plaque but every week some of my better paying rides are from pool jobs. When you get a pool job on a surge , each passenger you pick up after that is on the same multiplier also.

It ended up being the last trip of the night, in the direction of home and paid £31.38.

9 Sep – 16 Sep £450.57 (£18.65 Per Hour)

JOB OF THE WEEK

This week started off slow again as I was still trying to shake of the post holiday blues. By Thursday I finally felt I had my energy and drive back and was back into the swing of things.

Saturday was a busy night with 14 trips over 6 hours earning £150. Interestingly only 2 off those trips where from central London as every time I tried to make it into central I was pulled back out. 6 of the 14 trips where on a surge and the back to back nature of all the trips meant that I still earned good money for 6 hours work without driving into the Saturday night chaos of the West End.

The job of the week I’ve chosen was only £15.38 but it demonstrates how picking up a relatively short trip (2.3 Miles) with a good surge (2.1x) can pay dividends.

Overall, I was happy with how this week went with £450 but the goal for next week is to try and beat it.

16 Sep – 23 Sep £536.78 (£18.39 Per Hour)

JOB OF THE WEEK

This week was my busiest week yet driving for Uber and a great lesson in goal setting.

Last week I earned £450 and had set myself the target of beating it this week. Having a set goal to aim at, instead of just popping out ‘to see how it goes’, gave me a renewed focus and drive to keep on going till I hit my target. I ended up driving every night this week spread over 29 hours and 18 minutes for an average of about 4 hours a night.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday started of slow but it started to pick up by Thursday.

Friday saw the introduction of Ubers promotions again where you earn a bonus for 3 consecutive trips. I suspect this is to keep drivers logged onto the app to stop them from logging off to drive for the competition. What ever the reason may be, it was free money so I tried to hit as many promos as I could.

On Friday I hit the promotion twice. Both times the bonus was £12 earning me an extra £24 for the night.

On Saturday I hit the promotion twice again. This time they where for £14 and £15 earning me an extra £29 for a total of £141.48 for the night. The bonuses really helped as the night started of really slow where I didn’t pick up a trip for 2 hours despite being in the busiest part of London. Thankfully my luck changed and I ended up earning £120 in the following 4 hours.

I entered Sunday only needing £7 to beat last week but ended up earning £92.48 in only 3 hours and 39 minutes.

I chose this weeks JOB OF THE WEEK, not because it was a particularly profitable job but because it the best possible example of using your destination filters.

If your not aware, Uber allow you to use 2 destination filters a day. At the end of the night, for example, you can set your destination filter to home so in theory you will only be given trips that are going in your home direction.

This is exactly what happened on Sunday. I was in central London and had exceeded my target for the week so I decided to slowly make my way back home through London and hopefully pick up a few trips on my home. As soon as I set my destination for home, I got a request for a trip which was literally 5 minutes away from where I live. Because of the use of the destination filter I ended up being payed £35.38 to drive home, topping of my week nicely.

23 Sep – 30 Sep £599.60 (£20.32 Per Hour)

JOB OF THE WEEK

This week topped last week and ended up again being my highest earning week yet driving for Uber part time. It was also the first time, barring 40p that I hit the £600 mark. I worked virtually the same amount of hours as last week but earned £64 more and completed five more trips showing an improved profitability. The average earnings per trip was £10 with an average hourly rate of £20.64

As last week, I worked every night and felt fine doing it. If you are fit, health and get as much sleep as you can, it is possible to grind and work a good amount of hours. Between my full time job and part time Uber driving I worked just under 70 hours without a problem. Off course, with such a heavy workload there is no relaxing in front of the TV at night or socialising with friends but with great sacrifice comes great reward and at the moment, I am willing to sacrifice.

If you haven’t read it yet, I released a 3 part series on health and what I do to stay fit and healthy with very limited time which you can find HERE

This week saw a continued success of using destination filters. The strategic use of a destination filter, when you find yourself miles away from the red hot surge of central London or when you are on the other side of London and are starting to plan your way home can really pay dividends.

I would quite often decline long trips that would take me away from where I wanted to be but I have started accepting them knowing that I can use my destination filter to minimise dead miles and clean up as I filter my way back.

As mentioned, I have started to get less picky about what trips I accept. Driving where ever the algorithm takes you and doing back to back jobs is really the best way to make the most money. The continues stream of work with zero dead miles really adds up at the end of the night.

There are exceptions though. If your in a busy area and Uber are sending you requests every few seconds it can be worth declining them until you get one that you think makes sense. In these situations it can be worth only accepting jobs that will not take you away from the busy area especially when you know it will be surging for the next hour or two.

Overall it was a really good month with my highest earnings to date despite a really poor first week.
